Manager CPC is out - Fellows qualify for assessment role.

Our Next Generation. Three years in the making, the first starts on the levy-paid Express degree manager at University West London are close to their Hons Degree and final assessments of their apprenticeship. Dr Tracey Worth in the photo with Course textbook for Express Logistics Manager.

There are two methods of final assessment, an hour's professional discussion on the sector and a seven thousand word essay on Express Logistics management. The end point assessors who will judge the discussion and mark the project are ready to be appointed.

Skills England, Andrew Scott has clarified the role requirements for the Express Manager Degree Apprenticeship assessors. Manager CPC was part of the original vision, but is no longer in the degree and is now out of the assessment. The assessors must have occupational competency at degree level and one of the clear recognitions for this is senior fellow of the Inst of Couriers.

Louise O'Neil, joint chair Skills England Trailblazer group for Express logistics, ‘ This brings clarity and focus to the assessor requirement and sets a route to assessment that will be rich in sector experience during the assessment for the degree Apprenticeship in Express management.’

Joint Chair, former SVP FedEx Trevor Hoyle, ‘Great news for sector of express logistics as this brings occupational experience focus to the final steps for the express manager candidates.’

Below we list the old and the new. Andy Scott details the new. This is standard wording that we include with most Level 6 EPA plans. It is to ensure that the assessor is of the same occupational level of the apprentice they are assessing. Doesn’t necessarily mean they need to have a degree or qual at level 6, but have occupational experience at that level. From reading the criteria on the IOC website for a fellowship, it would appear that they would certainly fit the mould, as it factors in their managerial experience, achievements and recognition within the sector.

The original wording with Manager CPC in is: ‘All independent assessors must meet the general requirements for assessment and verification qualifications and expertise in assessment principles and practices that are laid out in this end point assessment plan. Assessors must hold the certificate of professional competence (CPC) for transport managers (road haulage) and be able to demonstrate to the EPAO that they possess practical and up-to-date knowledge of current working practices in the Express delivery sector, for example through having at least 3 years of work experience in the past ten years in duties covered by the Express delivery manager standard.’

The new wording details occupational competence at L6 which is equivalent to IOC fellow, reads; ‘All independent assessors must meet the general requirements for assessment and verification qualifications and expertise in assessment principles and practices that are laid out in this end point assessment plan. Assessors must be able to demonstrate to the EPAO that they possess practical and up-to-date knowledge of current working practices in the express delivery sector, have recent relevant experience of the occupation or sector to at least occupational level 6, gained in the last 3 years or significant experience of the occupation or sector.’
