Joe King. Fleet Liaison Advisor CitySprint, London, Years in Industry 22

2013 winner office joe king citysprint

Joe King is known as a father and brother among our couriers at CitySprint, Joe is a highly respected and valued member of our team. Joe is a real hero among our couriers, and deserves recognition for the exceptional work he does, and the supportive environment he creates.

Joe started his career as a courier and so really understands what it is like to work as a courier and the pressures that can be felt by the team. Through hard work and dedication he worked his way up through the teams and is now Fleet Liaison Adviser. Joe's skills to understand and empathise with couriers, as well as defuse tension, proved invaluable during company transition, with Joe at the forefront of transferring operations, we were able to carry on running a smooth service for customers throughout the transition period.

Joe was the lead on installing a new recruitment process,

This has led to a dramatic reduction in courier churn, and the introduction of a rigorous training and development programme for all inexperienced new recruits to help them prepare for the demands of a career as a courier.

Beyond his day-to-day work, Joe is something of a handyman - he has repaired several items of courier equipment over the years, such as GPS trackers, radios and top boxes, as well as the odd pair of glasses here and there. Joe is never one to leave a fellow courier behind.

Barnaby Reardon, Special services Operator TNT, Croydon. Years in Industry 6

2013 winner office barnaby reardon tnt

Barnaby is one of those people who is absolutely 100% dedicated to his job and routinely goes the extra mile to exceed customer expectation.

A customer sent in this commendation:

Ever since I starting working in my current position 4 years I have always dealt with Barnaby, He is a vital part of the TNT team.

Right from the start Barnaby was courteous, bubbly very friendly but above all extremely efficient at what he does.

I am thoroughly happy with Barnaby and his team, their attitude and hard working approach making sure the customer is always happy. I wish Barnaby well in his nomination

Barnaby unerringly stepped up to the mark

When our depot was recently experiencing staffing level issues, Barnaby unerringly stepped up to the mark undertaking a senior managers role during her absence. On countless occasions Barnaby has stayed on after hours to ensure jobs are completed. I even saw emails from him at 7pm on the Thursday before Good Friday!

Barnaby is a true all rounder, with excellent knowledge of the operation. He is always available to help and coach new sales operators. He is also accomplished at sales, recently having to deal with a customer quotation that turned into a confirmed order resulting in more than £2,500 revenue.

With his senior manager away once again he is taking on a more senior role and already looking at ways to improve areas of operations.

Shelly De Redenat, Contracts Manager CitySprint, Southampton, Yrs in Industry 6

2013 winner office shelley de redenat citysprint

Shelly is a real credit to her team. She has an incredible amount of drive, tenacity and dedication, which combined make her one of the best contracts managers in the CitySprint team. She never settles for second best, and constantly looks for ways to improve the services provided.

Following on from her successful management of contracts the decision to make better use of Shelly's skills promoted her to her current role in November 2012. Within weeks, she had already liaised with Business Development department to create a number of reports and identified several new business opportunities, many of which are now being pursued by other sales teams.

Shelly then went on to look at ways in which CitySprint could enhance service levels and create business development opportunities among existing clients.

Using raw customer data, Shelly designed and submitted an entirely new proposal format to the marketing department.

This was not enough to satisfy her. Since her promotion, Shelly has generated face-to-face appointments with prestigious customers, opened new accounts, up-sold on existing accounts and helped cement a strong partnership between CitySprint Southampton and it's ever-growing client base, all the while continuing to contribute to the day-to-day operations of the service centre. Southampton is currently over target for new accounts and this is in no small part thanks to Shelly, and all her hard work.
