Ten thousand words of nominations for the 21st year of the National Courier Awards.

Recognition from apprentice to lifetime achievement as Express sector rattled their clappers for the final mile.

Twenty one years of the National Courier Awards, Express is an evolving sector and the awards have driven recognition of excellence. Tonight we see recognition from start to finish with apprentice to lifetime award and a national step change win for same day nationwide.

Continued retail shift from High Street to home deliver has brought challenge to a sector evolving to deliver customer chain excellence, those at the forefront are here for awards this evening and have been recognised by our independent panel of judges.

Transport Minister John Hayes stood on stage with Honorary fellow of the IoC, Traffic Commissioner Sarah Bell  to present a lifetime Services to Industry award to Kate Lester of Diamond Dispatch.

 Vice Chancellors were on stage to present Watford-based Top Flight Couriers' graduate apprentice Peter Daniel the award for Apprentice of the Year for management in an apprenticeship of express.

Step change award was taken in 2015 by Hermes for Sunday delivery, 2016 Hermes returned to win again with order by midnight for next day delivery on the Next Contract. 2017 Tesco delivered the step change with same day delivery for final mile food nationally across the UK.

Military distinctions drew a standing ovation as RLC full colonel Andy Moffatt read the citations:  A former soldier now working in express, Paul Cross MBE with Rico, reserve forces LCpl David Wilkie 151RGT RLC and regular army SSgt Shaun Stevenson 29RGT RLC  - 'delivery of highly secure, protectively marked mail to the operational theatre'.

The sold-out gala courier industry event organised by the Institute of Couriers and hosted at the institute of Directors celebrated excellence from two wheels to four, two ambassador awards and a community spirit for point to Point working at the Grenfell Tower site. Representations from courier companies large and small, regional and national, an independent panel of judges without sponsorship to recognise the very best of the best final mile express from ten thousand words of nominations.

The winners were greeted by stilt walkers and applauded by final mile clappers as the world tweeted them  to receive twenty one prestigious Courier ‘Silver C’ awards in the twenty first year of the National Courier Awards.
