Yodel, has announced it is hiring for over 3,000 seasonal roles across the UK, including 2,500 couriers and 600 warehouse roles in preparation for the busy Black Friday and Christmas shopping peak times. These new roles provide a flexible working environment with couriers able to scale deliveries around their existing schedules. There is also potential for temporary roles to become permanent in the long term. Yodel expects to handle up to 53% more parcels over the next three months as consumers ramp up spending ahead of the festive season. The parcel carrier has already seen significant growth in parcel volumes this year supported by multiple new contract wins and renewals across with some of the UK’s biggest retailers, as well as strong growth of its consumer-to-consumer deliveries, with volumes up 200% in the last two years.
To meet this demand, the business has continued to make significant investments in its network and infrastructure including a brand-new 162,000 sq. ft. depot in Huyton, doubling Yodel’s capacity in the North West. The business also continues to make multi-million pound investments in its fleet. This latest recruitment drive follows a new partnership with Onsi Pay, which will give greater financial flexibility to new couriers joining the business. The collaboration will enable couriers to access a portion of their earnings the next day, without waiting for the end of their pay cycle. Users can access up to £200 per withdrawal, with money transferred to their account within minutes. The initiative provides greater financial freedom and transparency, offering couriers more control over their money, giving them the option to keep track of their estimated daily earnings through the Onsi app. The Next Day Pay benefit is in addition to discounts on everyday expenses and fuel card packages, which Yodel provides through its partnerships with the Retail Trust and the Hapi app.
Mike Hancox, CEO of Yodel, said: “As we head into the busiest time of year for retailers, we’re expanding our workforce to meet the boom in demand for parcel deliveries as the ecommerce market continues to go from strength to strength. We’re committed to supporting our network of couriers and providing a competitive range of benefits, and our partnership with Onsi Pay will enable us to continue leading the industry on this front. “We’ve already seen high registration rates amongst new employees and are exploring a wider roll out of the platform to existing colleagues in the near future.”
