Fifteen hundred quid for electric two-wheel scooters brand new.

Micromobility - IOC at the NEC Birmingham for everything two wheel at the Motorcycle Live bike show.

Electric everywhere, from traditional brands to newcomers on the block, lightweight scooters starting at fifteen hundred quid points to the answer to final mile city density delivery issues.

The new term on the block is PLVs - Powered Light vehicles.  'L zero' L category are the solution to last mile delivery.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson took a Friday look at final mile this week with a visit to DPD UK in Middleton, Greater Manchester.

The PM met IOC fellow, DPD boss, Dwain McDonald and discussed DPD plans for an all-electric fleet of vehicles, new infrastructure investment and job creation.

 

Green Fleet awards for IOC fellows – medium and large fleet wins

Institute of Couriers fellows were centre stage at this weeks Green Fleet awards for both medium and large fleet.

Graham Thomas Ocado took the large fleet win.

IOC chair of electric vehicle group, Sam Clarke Gnewt Menzies took fleet win for medium size fleet

TfL boss, IOC hon fellow, Mike Brown stands down as STAT chair as he is set to leave his role as Commissioner in May next year after 30 years with TfL.

Customer Experience & Loyalty Award goes to DPD UK at the 2019 National Business Awards.

DPD UK has been honoured at the 2019 National Business Awards, winning the Customer Experience & Loyalty Award.

Astronaut Tim Peake was the keynote speaker at the November ceremony in front of 1,200 business leaders, investors and representatives from Government and the press, at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London's Park Lane.

 

Launch of EAV P1 cargo bike.

DPD UK has taken delivery of the first 10 EAV P1 Electric assist cargo bikes - the result of a partnership with Oxford-based manufacturer EAV.

IOC fellow, Dwain McDonald, DPD UK's CEO commented,

The P1 is an absolutely amazing vehicle and we are immensely proud to be technical partners alongside EAV on this unique project. This is an entirely new type of vehicle and is designed specifically to meet the current challenges for delivery firms in the urban environment.

 

Five of the unique bio-mechanical hybrid electric-assisted pedal bikes are currently being tested on the streets of London, York and Newbury, while the other five are being shipped to DPD UK business units in Ireland, Spain, Germany, Portugal and France to help support British manufacturing and exporting abroad.

Leeds City Council voted to pass a motion declaring a climate emergency in March 2019 and committed to become carbon neutral by 2030.

IOC were in the Northern Powerhouse ‘Join the Big Leeds climate conversation’ Leeds, ‘ready to be ambitious and bold for clean air final mile, a city already holding a reputation for delivering home based charging for their council electric vehicle drivers.

Operators, manufacturers, energy providers and Government urged to act now.

DPD upgrades own EV investment plan for 500 vehicles by end of 2020; "We cannot kick this problem any further down the road."

Trebling the charging points in Greater Manchester.

The government has instructed Greater Manchester and many other areas to develop Clean Air Plans to bring levels of NO2 on local roads within legal limits as soon as possible.

So Greater Manchester is now working together to produce a single approach for the whole region.

TfGM have considered a wide range of measures that could help reduce roadside NO2 levels and carried out extensive work to help develop a proposed package of measures.

These measures include:

· A Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone which the most polluting buses, coaches, HGVs, vans, taxis and private hire vehicles would pay a daily penalty to drive in.

· A multi-million pound funding package to support local businesses and sole traders to upgrade to cleaner vehicles.

· Trebling the number of electric vehicle public charging points.
