Health and Safety Executive addressed the IOC fellows round table last month to announce sector-specific COVID safe transport and logistics audits focused on the implementation of controls to prevent Covid-19 transmission in the workplace and the provision of suitable welfare facilities for all workers.
This week HSE updated senior IOC fellows on progress.
Nina Day comments, ‘Overall, provision of access to welfare facilities has been found to be very good, with arrangements made for visiting drivers to access site facilities where they are required to wait in their cabs.’ ‘Vehicle driveaways are a significant danger during loading or unloading.’
City of London Corporation teams up with Amazon to cut delivery vehicles and improve air quality
The City of London Corporation has, this week [15 December] approved its first Last Mile Logistics Hub to consolidate deliveries, reduce traffic and cut harmful emissions from the Square Mile of the City of London.
The Planning and Transportation Committee approved the initiative which will transform 39 car parking spaces within the underutilised London Wall Car Park into a hub for Amazon Logistics.
The final leg of parcel deliveries will be undertaken by e-cargo bikes and people on foot, removing large numbers of delivery vehicles from City streets.
