Driver Health Day, part of the first Driver Health Week, Loughborough University.

From the stage Rachel Taylor MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Freight and Logistics, announced that they will launch a Call for Evidence on driver health and welfare, with the aim of publishing a report early next year.

Chris Floyd Evri, IOC group chair for driver health, ‘Some smart and thoughtful people in this room, and I’m here to make notes.’ ‘We perform a mandatory, routine check on vehicles every single day we use them. Why would we not want to know (and seek to improve) the health of the most vital part of our operation, the people? Knowing the capabilities of those who drive our vehicles should be as routine and as important to an organisation as knowing the capabilities of the vehicles themselves.

Stacy Clemes ‘Professor of Active Living and Public Health within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University – ‘It was a real pleasure to welcome over 120 attendees, representing industry, government, trade bodies, unions, research, and occupational health, to Loughborough University today for the inaugural Driver Health Day summit as part of #DriverHealthWeek. There has been a huge amount of hard work that has gone into the planning of this event, and it’s been incredibly rewarding for everyone involved to see the high level of engagement and enthusiasm for supporting the health and wellbeing of our essential driver workforce today. Thank you to everyone who attended and thank you also to our excellent speakers and panelists! A big thank you to everyone who has helped make this event possible, particularly Dr Grant Charlesworth-Jones and team, and to our Loughborough University events team led by Mark Dabney.’
