Big election news for Institute of Couriers was Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer elected Lord Peter Hendy as Minister of State for Dept of Transport.
IOC chair Carl Lomas comments, ‘An outstanding result, exceptional recognition, but also a sad moment and loss for the Institute of Couriers as Lord Peter resigns his Presidency of IOC to wholly focus on the new DfT Ministerial position.’
Lord Peter took the reins of IOC President from Lord Falkland. As a former Commissioner, Transport for London. Elected Honorary fellow in recognition of his exceptional work to sort road freight during the London Olympic Games. He took the role of IOC President in 2022. He had already attended many of the fellows' gowning events to welcome the new of the Express sector.
In his resignation letter to the IOC, Lord Peter comments, ‘I wont be very far away at all, and I look forward to hearing about the future ambitions for the Institute.’
In taking the DfT Ministerial role he has tendered his resignation as President of the Institute of Couriers. He will be greatly missed and has delivered a very strong positive influence to the Institute's preparation to apply for chartership with the Privy Council.
IOC CEO, Dr Tracey Worth comments, ‘ Lord Peter will be greatly missed, a powerhouse of transport knowledge which he shared with many fellows, building vision and quality in the sector of express logistics.’
