The 'Your DPD' app and Design Space wow the judges

For the Delivery Innovation of the Year award, the judging panel of independent retail experts were looking for a technology that has helped retailers deal with one of the most troublesome aspects of their businesses: effective and cost-efficient delivery."

DPD won the award based on its unique and award-winning app, Your DPD. The app, which has been downloaded over 8 million times, is designed to give consumers more control than any other carrier over how, where and when they receive a parcel. As a result, DPD has been able to significantly increase the number of parcels delivered right first time.

Inspired by the success of the app, DPD launched Design Space on the Your DPD platform. The in-app forum allows the public to suggest, share and vote in polls on new ideas to improve the DPD experience still further. 50,000 people are now actively engaged on Design Space, creating one of the world's biggest focus groups. To date, around 4,000 ideas have been submitted and over 170,000 polls completed. Most importantly, a series of new ideas have been launched as a result, including Prove Yourself - which makes it easier to prove identity when collecting a high value parcel from a DPD site and Message the Driver - which allows consumers to contact the driver with useful information, such as how to find their house.

By leveraging clever tech, we've completely reinvented the delivery experience for customers on the doorstep and been able to give shippers a unique service. Our investment in innovation over the last 10 years is what has turned DPD into the premium carrier for the home delivery market.

 

Over 8 million app downloads is just crazy, in any market - but this is a parcel app! In addition to the benefits it gives our recipients, it has been amazing for us too. Around 20 million people a year experience a DPD delivery and we really wanted to find a way to harness their views and encourage them to shape the future of home delivery. Design Space allows us to say, ‘what could we do better?', which is a crucial part of the cycle of innovation.

 

Design Space has generated so many ideas - often just small improvements - but this ‘marginal gains' approach to innovation has helped drive service levels to record highs. In a competitive market, that can make a huge difference.
