IOC Chairman Carl Lomas and local MP Seema Malhotra open  new West Thames logistics centre for next generation of Heathrow Logisticians.

Seema Malhotra Labour MP for Feltham & Heston and Carl Lomas  IOC teamed up to ask the aspiring logistics career youngsters of Feltham to countdown from ten before they cut the red ribbon and opened the new showcase logistics excellence centre. The new centre was open in the best sunshine of the month and  a bumper crowd of youngsters were queued up to look at the Heathrow logistics jobs.

IOC Chair Carl Lomas talked about the strong link of education and employers in the logistics hot spot of Heathrow, ‘logistics is about getting stuff delivered, its got to be on time every time, road rail and air, its complex to get it right, its challenging, walk through this door and walk into a career that is not going away.’  Bringing jobs, skills and the world of work to life. Have a go activities in the warehouse included fork truck driving on the smart yellow Briggs, Yale fork trucks. There were stacking and racking challenges and a real life flat bed truck area for real work experience. Warehouse to wheels with talks about driving at all commercial levels, the logistics sector facing a challenge to find fifty thousand new drivers in the next twelve months.
