DHL boss Graham Inglis introduced TfL Sir Peter Hendy to a full house of London hauliers and logisticians for the freight forum.

Ian Wainwright launched 'delivering a road freight policy' document as a legacy of the Olympic games road planning and Michele Dix reviewed the ultra low emission zone.

 

Graham Inglis (DHL) opened, this forum was a legacy of the Olympic TFL freight meetings, 'Its an opportunity to hold people to dates & delivery', 'We can use this forum to work together on roads policy and promote partnerships in working.'

Sir Peter Hendy, TfL 'London's population is increasing 80k a year, it's a huge roads challenge, we value this forum as an interaction, freight has displayed a magnificent enthusiasm, I have never seen another industry put so much in.'

Sir Peter focused on cyclist issues, 'Boris is committed furiously to cycling we need to manage that.' 'Cycling is growing exponentially, HGV & cycle safety is a key issue, 18% increase in serious cycle accidents last year,' (53% of cycle fatalities are with HGV and a large proportion of that is construction HGV). 'I got together with Minister Steven Hamond and Boris over the summer to form a HGV  task force, we have a cycle task force and its focusing on cycle laws, we caught 2,500 cyclists for red light jumping in the last two months. Back of the highway code you will find a two and a half thousand pound fine for dangerous cycling.  TFL strongly promotes cycle training, TFL are also looking at visibility from HGV vehicles, we are talking to EU on brick shaped cabs.' 'TFL are deeply committed to safety but you can't ban freight that helps the City do business.'

Ian Wainwright TFL , the new document is out,  'Delivering a road freight policy .' This is again a legacy from the Olympic games, find it on our TFL web, kerbside access & parking issues. There is a growing trend of home delivery arriving in workplace and adding further pressure to the City of London supply chain. TFL are looking to develop a driver training programme for quitter out of hours deliveries. Freight operators recognition scheme, FORS has reached over 3000 drivers receiving training on safer urban driving.

Michelle Dix TFL, The ultra-low emission zone , a challenge to address London's poor air quality, particularly NO2, how do we best incentivise low CO2 technology? Where will we be on Euro 6 by 2020? Working groups had strong views on fuel cost and vehicle tax initiatives for the technology to be taken on.

The forum ended with lunch and a network of transport folk focused on a goal for London roads success. IOC chair Carl Lomas took a particular focus on the growing home delivery logistics routing into London business address deliveries, send your shopping to work and be sure to be in, is this a growing trend?
