Carl Lomas and Dr Tracey Worth IOC at a busy Feb conference as close to Euston Station as possible, big UK-wide turnout of manufacturers and users of all things light vehicle.
Raked seating lecture hall with giant screen for Govt big hitters to open. The energetic conference followed with a theme of 'solving the mobility puzzle' with two-wheels and L-cat light vehicles.
Welcome by MCIA chair Neil Fletcher head of motorcycles at Honda.
30 Euston Square, solving the mobility puzzle, piece by piece, L1 to L6 light category vehicles. Our sector remains strong while outside economics are tough, we deliver affordable fun. Our value to UK economy is £7bn, employing fifty thousand people in the UK. We provide affordable and low emission mobility. We support the govt in a quest for net zero. Since the new govt, our sector has become concerned. We need to see uncertainty ended.
Tony Campbell CEO MCIA talked on geopolitics and a detailed approach to policy.
This sector is key to the future of transport.’ Not since the seventies have two wheels been seen as a solution to mobility, economics moved our two wheels to leisure. The leisure market then depleted. For the millennium the born-again market returned with superbikes. We are at a critical moment, no place for old ideas, there needs to be a place for the two-wheelers of tomorrow in business and leisure.
Ministerial Keynote, Lilian Greenwood.
Well done the MCIA for a future vision of the role of light vehicles to keep the country moving. I believe we can build a greener solution; I understand one size does not fit all, we recognise decarbonisation is available in your sector. I believe the future is net zero, we want a collaborative working relationship with your sector. We are ready to publish the first road safety policy in a decade. Our Govt is ready to review plans for motorcycle training and testing. On type approval we have a plan for less onerous while keeping net zero.
Shadow Minister Gareth Bacon MP, L-cat vehicles re-transforming business deliveries.
The sector is critical to UK, a proud sector, a sector for sustainability and innovation. Clearly this is broader than just motorcycles. Challenge of using bus lanes is an issue, current govt is sending the wrong message. This industry needs tailored approach, it's no longer just motorcycles, it’s important to remember L-cat vehicles are not niche.

Considerable uncertainty on second round tariffs.
What UK Business & Manufacturing needs from the Government.
Key sector market trends Steve Sargent Triumph motorcycles.
We are at a time when a divide between corporate and home sectors has an impact on two wheels. Tariff impact - this will be very different to first Trump administration. This will be an immediate effect, not phased. Scope will be across the board. Integration beyond China, Canada and Mexico already. There is considerable uncertainty over second round impacts. – I expect the UK to largely escape US tariffs.
