August 2021, developers Prologis handed Royal Mail the keys to the million parcel a night, Midlands Parcel Hub to begin the internal fit out of the Daventry-based hub.

Beumer Group has been contracted to construct the automated parcel sorting system inside the building and we’ll start seeing that progress soon. This is a significant milestone as Royal Mail moves towards the opening of the Midlands Parcel Hub that will play a key role in the future direction of Royal Mail. It will be our second – and largest – Hub and follows hard on the heels of our North West Hub in Warrington, which is scheduled to be fully operational in spring next year.

We continue to see high volumes of parcels passing through our network. The pandemic and the accelerated move to online shopping means parcels need to be sorted more quickly. Both our Midlands and North West hubs will supercharge our existing network of mail centres and delivery offices – helping us to handle increased volumes as efficiently and quickly as possible.

The new Hub will have the capacity to process more than one million items a day. It’s situated at the Daventry International Rail Freight Interchange – one of the most successful logistics parks in the UK. Its ideal location gives excellent road links to the M1 and M6 motorways and the West Coast Main Line – plus many customer warehouses and fulfilment centres.

The Hub will house a Vehicle Operating Centre and a rail terminal, enabling an increase in the amount of mail transported efficiently and sustainably. Royal Mail is planning to start operations at the Hub in 2023. Stay tuned for further updates and watch our video here.
