My commitment to you is to work with you. We will continue to help you.’

We can't take our eye off the ball on Road to Zero

37% reduction in NOx directly related to ULEZ

Andy Byford,

Can't take our eye off the ball on road to zero road safety, today is about direct vision standard. We want to help operators who have not been ready for DVS. Air quality, 37% reduction in NOX by Feb, this was directly related to introduction of ULEZ. Again we want to help you prepare for a zero emission future. Welcome DPD and an all electric fleet for Central London. We have started a Hammersmith Last mile bike scheme. Land for freight, new London plan provides protection for industrial use including logistics activity, distribution and collection points will be protected by the London plan. Shift to water, DHL and Thames Clippers is a great initiative. My commitment to you is to work with you. We will continue to help you.

Alex Williams TfL, head of City planning

‘London is functioning in a different way.’

‘Car numbers are rising.’

‘A car-led recovery will impact on road space for freight.’

London is functioning in a very different way. We need to think about Streetspace protecting local business in the town centres across the City. We must review at a granular level with each local authority and TfL. As COVID hit it became clear that TfL and boroughs would need to rapidly adapt London streets and public access. There is a big return to car numbers, public transport use is down. It’s a concern that this becomes a car-led recovery. Congestion cost London economy £9.5 billion in 2017, if this continues it will impact freight space on the road. We have seen a huge amount of delivery in a very short space of time. Car numbers are rising.

IOC ask ?

Do these car numbers include private vehicle delivery?

‘As car numbers climb, home delivery climbs, how many of the deliveries are being done by second job private car users? Have these numbers been factored?’

Simon Nielson TfL,

Retail sales for home delivery remain significantly higher than pre-lockdown levels.

Simon Nielson, Strategic analysis, city planning.

Lots of activity kept going, with easing a more stable period, over the last three months freight activity has been stable around 85%. Freight is last elastic to change on the figures for congestion charge. Trends driving freight demand, construction activity is down UK-wide by 10% but it's factored by streams of construction, housing, infrastructure. Retail sales for home delivery remain significantly higher than pre-lockdown levels. Home deliveries are 30% up.

Current forecast, ‘online sales with home delivery are expected to stay. ‘ ‘People are unlikely to return to the office four times a week.’

James Adcroft, Tesco

‘Servicing the City is about relationships with boroughs and TfL.’

Tesco is committed to delivering for Londoners and working with TfL. Tesco strategy to double online delivery in three years was achieved in the first eight weeks of COVID. Great to see several partnerships with haulage have grown to help us deliver. We have made changes to keep or drivers safe on the road. Greatest challenge is in urban centres, navigating schemes of cycling and pedestrian change. Our solutions have had to adapt very quickly to Streetspace, finding load space and access for the Tesco Business, servicing the City is about relationships with boroughs and TFL. Tesco invested in new fleet ready for widening ULEZ and DVS scheme.
