The World celebrates today, Sunday 8th March, the 111th International womens day. DfT Baroness Vere rallied women in logistics to celebrate the freight transport sector as a future career route for women.‘If you want stuff done, get women to do it.’
DfT minister, Baroness Vere,
Transport needs more women. So many things in life are an accident. At DfT we have a 50% balance of men and women. There are three female minsters. If you want stuff done get women to do it.
Bernadette Kelly, transport Permanent Secretary
Being Permanent Secretary has its challenges. Long list of men, but short list of women. Women account for only 20% of the workforce in transport. This matters; we care and we need to make a difference, challenges perceived as image, preconceptions. We need to change culture and images with concerted action at every level from Apprentices to CEO. Samir is the face of international women’s day for transport of today.
