IoC in Manchester for the birth of a Northern govt freight group hosted by Transport for Greater Manchester TfGM. Are the Northern cities ready for logistics consolidation? Greater Manchester is committed to delivering a vision to ensure our city region has a world-class transport network that supports long-term, sustainable economic growth and access to opportunities for all. On behalf of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is currently developing the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040. This strategy will be supported by a number of sub-strategies which are at various stages of development. These include the Greater Manchester Freight and Logistics Strategy.

Freight in the city - the conference covered politics, from council to LEP, traffic commissioner to town planner. Top level logistics speakers, TfL to TfGM, networks and workshops . Multi-modal distribution parks. Warehouse to wheels.

Former Asda VP Ian Stansfield spoke with passion for solutions to e-retail and final mile. DHL and Clipper looked at consolidation to delivery. Trucks in the sunshine outside, trade show inside and over four hundred guests for the top level summit of pallet to parcel. Topic focus on pre and post consolidation, distribution centers local or regional as online continues to grow beyond expectations.

Freight is complex, we need to demystify freight, its goods and services, we need to keep it simple. We want each region to work together, Manchester with London, with the Northern Powerhouse.

Greater Manchester (TfGM) launch TRANSPORT STRATEGY 2040 today

Head of Logistics for TfGM Helen Smith was delighted to discuss strategy of cities with Patrick Gallagher CEO of CitySprint and Professor Tony Hines of Manchester Metropolitian University; when visiting Cartmarking with the IoC at Guildhall yard London. Helen recently announced the Transport strategy of 2040 for Greater Manchester called Our Vision.

'It sets out a vision for the transport newtwork that we believe Greater manchester needs by 2040 to deliver World Class connections that support long-term sustainable economic growth and access to opportuniities for all'. Greater Manchester want to hear your views now, through a twelve week consultation this summer before the first of the five year plans are prepared in 2016.
