IOC Prof Tracey Worth, ‘ 2016 A year of years, founding fellows 10 years, National Courier Awards 20 years and our President at eighty years’ ‘It has become tradition to call line and I do so this evening.’ Tracey announced the new fellows in the House of Lords. It was a who’s-who leading the sector, breadth of vehicle from foot to truck and same day to e-retail. The gala ceremony has become a life memory for those involved, a recognition of the highest accolade of the sector, supported by family.

Simon Allan-Brooks, Antalis
Simon has been in the industry for 18 years working within courier, parcel and logistics industry, successfully delivering operational excellence and having enjoyed working with TNT, DPD, UKMail and Rico logistics and now as the Regional Operations Manager for Antalis. Simon is recognized for his professional contribution of knowledge, commitment to improving service provision and integration, with the Sameday Express Courier industry; he is hereby confirmed as FELLOW of the Institute of Couriers.
Daniel Allin, Diamond Logistics
Daniel started in the industry working for United Carriers as traffic clerk and dispatch co-ordination manager, his career journey taking him to UKMail, Expert Distribution, Rico Logistics, Aktrion Logistics and currently the Chief Operating Office for Diamond Logistics. A fulfilling career for which Daniel is recognized for his professional contribution of knowledge, commitment and innovative service delivery, increasing business provision within the Sameday Express Courier industry; he is hereby confirmed as FELLOW of the Institute of Couriers.
Greg Filmer, Swift Group
Greg has held many roles within the industry, having held posts as a General manager, sales manager, Operational manager, customer services and International manager for regional courier companies. You will agree that Greg’s career has been varied. As the Divisional Manager of the Express Division of Swift Group Greg is recognized for his professional contribution of knowledge, support and dedication to the delivery of excellence within the Sameday Express Courier industry; he is hereby confirmed as FELLOW of the Institute of Couriers.
David Jacobs, DX
David has attained many roles in his career that started with Carryfast. Holding management positions within Group 4 Nightspeed, MicroSpeed, NCN Express, Diamond Logistics, DHL Express, Yodel and now DX. David has been charged with ‘courier development’ supporting those individuals that are the root of our industry and the industry needs this support. David is recognized for his professional contribution of knowledge, delivery of safe working practices and delivery of innovative driver development within the Sameday Express Courier industry; he is hereby confirmed as FELLOW of the Institute of Couriers.
Stephen May, Sameday Co
Stephen started as a qualified electronic engineer he was part of a global distribution component company. Having found his way into the courier industry Stephens passion of changing the way clients viewed the courier industry was to take the shape as Founding director of the Sameday Company. His involvement in the industry has seen him take chairmanship of the association NCDA. Stephen is recognized for his professional contribution of knowledge, dedication for the improvement of Sameday Express standards within his own company and that of the Sameday Express Courier industry; he is hereby confirmed as FELLOW of the Institute of Couriers.
Sean McGrae, Tarmac
Sean’s contribution to the industry is held through shared road space. He is a member of the TFL freight forum. Sean is involved with the employment of all drivers, heavy goods to plant machinery to small vans. Delivery of raw materials by drivers to the customer. Health and safety for all road users is very much part of his profession effecting ours. Sean integrates policy and discussion from within the heavy goods industry of Tarmac with the sameday express courier industry. We welcome the cross industry support. David Poole DPD
David’s career has been his life and has contribution to the industry through the knowledge and commitment of personal improvement for all individuals who work in the industry. In his role today as the Human Resources Director for DPD he has seen many changes needed to keep the workforce informed and skilled in the new technology that is used today by our couriers. Sandra Robinson Diamond Logistics
Sandra started in the industry 28 years ago as an information specialist with the software company called Fleetway Systems, the catalyst for the DA System that is in use today with many of our courier companies. Sandra’s career as the mainstay of operational support as technology forges a new path of express courier delivery. Sandra joined Diamond Logistics over 2 years ago to assist with the Diamond Logisitics franchaise express courier business development. Sandra brings commitment to improving the adoption of useful technology within the industry. Sandra is recognized for her professional contribution of knowledge, support and commitment to the improvement of technology within the Sameday Express Courier industry; ; she is hereby confirmed as FELLOW of the Institute of Couriers.
Terry Room, CitySprint
Terry may well be challenging everyone in this room to holding the longest served career in our industry – close on 50 years - but his ‘curriculum vitae’ shows the quality of that career. Having proudly done – probably - every role in the industry sales, telephonist, courier, controller and operational management he now heads up compliance. His ability to absorb, make changes and implement new pathways throughout his career demonstrates how dynamic this man is. Jonathan Smith, APC
Jonathan has Express Courier in his veins. He has held Director positions with DHL Express, Yodel, InPost, Amtrak, Rentokil Intial and the former CityLink, but noting that he joined the industry with that well-loved company called Red Star. His leadership has influenced many companies and individuals in this industry for the better. His vision and commitment to improve, push forward positive and innovative solutions to change operational delivery of both the Sameday Express courier and overnight services sees him as an industry leader. Emma Sutherland, FedEx
Emma started her career skills within Human Resources. Joining FedEx, Emma has taken a crucial role in the development of the courier drivers professional education and learning development. Career pathways of learning are important to the all who work in the industry and Emma is passionate about making it available to all within the industry. Jane Weaver, AYS Logistics
Jane’s career started in the industry when she joined the owner of AYS Logistics in just 2001 and in 2004 led a management buyout that saw Jane take up the reins and became Managing Director. A radical move for one’s career but shows the passion and commitment that Jane was humbled to be part of when the courier company was in need. Leading by example, Jane’s motto is ‘to exceed expectations and always deliver’ She has taken the courier company AYS Logistics, put new life into the operational processes, supported those who she worked alongside and increased the business. Jane is recognized for her professional contribution of knowledge, for her support and dedication to those who work within her own company and that of the Sameday Express Courier industry; she is hereby confirmed as FELLOW of the Institute of Couriers.

Carl Lomas MBE Chairman IoC addressing the 2016 fellows gowning, ‘This afternoon our heads of industry fellows workshop opened with a view that by 2020 half of all retail sales will be express delivered. Fellows looked at latest electric vehicle technology for city centre access and our new hon fellow Mike Brown, commissioner for TfL delivered a masterclass vision for London. Fellows looked at a strong future vision of qualifications for our next generation workforce, the govt LEPs from the Golden triangle geographic have all focused on this workforce solution for our sector.

Major Andrew Gifford, OC 562 Squadron RLC. 'On behalf of 151 London Transport Regiment, The Royal Logistic Corps, the premiere reservist Logistic unit in London, I would like to congratulate L/Cpl Claire Williams. She joined 562 Sqn on the 1st October 2011 as a non driver; she trained as an Army driver and completed her GS (General Service) driver qualification in July 2015. She was a National Courier awards winner in Oct 2015 and raised to the rank lance corporal Feb 2016. She is very deserving of the accolade, first hon associate of the Institute of Couriers'

Finally, Eighty years Lord Falkland – our president has never received an institute hood and this evening we are to correct this. I ask IOC chairman Carl Lomas to present to the line of fellows here this evening the hood of our president, to be passed by the hand of each and every fellow here this evening for the gowning of our president in his eightieth year.

David Stringer-Lamarre, chairman of the Institute of Directors, City of London spoke to fellows and guests.
‘In the year of Lord Falkland at 80 the National Courier Awards will be in their 20th year, the last ten years the awards have been at the IOD in Pall Mall. This bond between IOC and IOD has focused on the alignment of the two institutes, between commerce and delivery. The future brings further shift to retail and home delivery and will see the express market engaged across a broader platform, Sunday deliveries, evening deliveries. Challenges in road space access to cities, clean air solutions with electric vehicles are at the front of all discussions for IOC. Most importantly is the next generation of our workforce. IOC have worked with BIS to create a new standard, a new apprenticeship, a trailblazer qualification called express delivery courier driver. Framework and assessment is presently in development with Pearson. This will be the new signpost and route to a career in our evolving sector. It will map a stairway of progression from warehouse to wheels. From wheels to sortation, supervision and management’
