‘I don’t believe Tuffnells was a bad business,

The bigger challenge starts now.’

‘I don’t believe Tuffnells was a bad business. it couldn’t be given the customer base. My maths suggests they were shipping circa 1 million consignments per month of mainly IWD freight to businesses and end consumers. Clearly an imbalance between income, expenditure, and a lack of cash.

The bigger challenge starts now. Not just for the employees but for their customer base. Where is the capacity in this arena to handle an extra million consignments per month without impact on service levels? Perhaps that’s some of the problem for this type of traffic. It doesn’t work in the parcels carrier world at the rates retailers and consumers want to pay. The remaining small number of 1 person carriers who specialise in this sector will benefit significantly from this, revenue per consignment will now be enhanced. I believe we will now see an impact similar to the covid period where the larger products get squeezed out of networks to create capacity for more attractive freight. Some difficult decisions ahead for the customers impacted by this. It’s the time to choose your next delivery partner wisely. There is more to the cost of delivery than the headline rate. Loss, damage, impact on your call centres, negative feedback and reputational damage all need consideration.

Sunday online – Daniel Green, Tuffnells – ‘Don’t surrender yet’

Daniel Green, National Courier Awards winner , speaking on line Sunday. ‘Come on team Tuffnells Parcels Express don’t surrender just yet, the announcement is Monday!!!! I’m seeing to many throw in the towel and advertise themselves as if it’s over. We was given the weekend to wait and the very first day some are selling yourself as jobless, stay positive, wait out!!! it’s only 2 days until D-day. If the news is good we carry on fighting the good fight and help rise the big green parcel machine to the top again, if it’s bad hold your head up high that you stayed on the ship until the very end and know that you gave it your all in support of a fantastic company that has brought many smiles, happiness, paid your bills and fed you over the years. Be open to options, but please don’t surrender just yet by excepting what could be a mistake come Monday.’

Andrew Dawes, former Tuffnells Ipswich - ‘Good luck Monday

Memories of my time at Tuffnells Ipswich. A depot we grew to top 3 status in the network. Some truly wonderful people and good memories. My thoughts will be with them all tomorrow, Monday June 12th as The Big Green Parcel Machine fights for its very survival.
