September 1st news - Menzies Distribution deal to acquire Gnewt Cargo.

London-based Gnewt operated by IoC fellow Sam Clarke runs more than a hundred electric vehicles in the City of London from arches in SE1.

Gnewt, which was founded in 2008, provides final-mile delivery services in central London for retailers, e-tailers and parcel carriers such as Hermes and TNT.

Last year, it made over 3 million deliveries in London using the UK’s largest all-electric fleet of commercial vehicles.

Sam Clarke, IoC Fellow, speaks Gnewt deal to Tracey Worth,

Gnewt has been an amazing journey for me since we started trading in 2009, and the environmental achievements have been unprecedented. This deal puts the business on yet another upward trajectory and I am hugely excited about working with Menzies Distribution to see the next chapter of Gnewt begin. We have ambitious plans to continue pushing the boundaries of a fully electric fleet with innovation in logistics at the forefront of that ambition.

Menzies MD Greg Michael commented,

Everyone recognises that goods need to be moved in and around congested city centres. The Gnewt model shows it can be done successfully whilst minimising environmental impacts. As a holder of the Carbon Trust Standard since 2009, Menzies Distribution has long been focused on our environmental responsibilities.
