The Royal Mail

2016 commemorates 500 years since Henry VIII knighted Brian Tuke, the first Master of the Posts, in 1516. As you would expect from any institution that has been around for 500 years, there are a number of significant dates in their history. The knighting of Brian Tuke was the catalyst for the creation of the Royal Mail we know today. Tuke had the influence and authority to establish key post towns across the country and build out a formal postal network. Today, Royal Mail is the UK’s designated Universal Postal Service Provider, supporting customers, businesses, and communities around the country. They’re the only company delivering a ‘one-price-goes-anywhere’, six days a week service to more than 29 million addresses across the UK.

Worshipful Company of Carmen

The Carmen are the ancient livery of transport and hold the oldest vehicle taxation ceremony in the world each summer at the Guildhall.  The Carmen Master is often in attendance at Inst of Couriers VIP events. First and foremost a Fellowship of transport and logistics family, bringing together every professional discipline of transport, logistics and warehousing. The Carmen's fellowship is rooted deep in the past. They were there when the City of London itself was born and, traditionally, the trade dates back to the 13th century. Today, The Worshipful Company of Carmen continues to reflect the transport industry and serve the City of London as it has done for five centuries. The Carmen, through good fellowship, reflects the industry in its many aspects, with the focus on surface transport, including road and rail, and goods and passenger.
