DfT reshuffle – Sec of State Mark Harper - hot off the press latest ministers for transport

Sec of State for transport, Mark Harper announced during the National Courier Awards. All portfolios now finalised.

The Prime Minister has finalised the appointments to the Ministerial team at the Department for Transport and the Ministerial Portfolios have been confirmed.

 

The Rt Hon Mark Harper MP has been appointed as Secretary of State for Transport. He was previously Chief Whip, Minister for Disabled People, Minister for Immigration, Minister for Political and Constitutional Reform.

The Rt Hon Jesse Norman MP has been appointed as Minister of State for Transport. He was previously Minister of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Paymaster General. He returns to the Department for Transport having previously served as a Minister from 2017-2018. His portfolio includes Transport decarbonisation, air quality, autonomous vehicles, drones, e-scooters, active travel (cycling and walking) and skills, science and research.

Huw Merriman MP has been appointed as Minister of State for Transport. He had been a member of the Transport Select Committee since September 2017 becoming its chair in January 2020 until his appointment as a transport minister. His portfolio includes Rail transformation and reform, Rail infrastructure, HS2, Northern Powerhouse Rail and Rail freight.

Richard Holden MP has been appointed as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport. He had been a member of the Public Accounts Committee from March 2020 to March 2022. His portfolio includes Roads and motoring (incl. DVLA, DVSA, VCA), Regions and devolution, Haulage, Future of Freight and London (incl. Crossrail, Transport for London).

Baroness Vere of Norbiton has been reappointed as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport. She was previously a Government Whip (Baroness in Waiting) from 21 December 2016 and was appointed as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport on 23 April 2019. Her portfolio includes Aviation, Maritime, Security, Civil Contingencies and Women’s Safety.
