This week's CV Forum got off to a great start with the first public speech by the new Under-Secretary of State for Transport, Robert Goodwill MP. Talking to commercial vehicle industry leaders gathered at the British Museum, the Minister opened the event with a wide ranging speech in which he acknowledged the importance of the road transport sector to the UK economy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Logistics skills alliance GTA training launch for Heathrow (full report in members' area)

The first ever logistics GTA, (group training association), is an alliance between Heathrow, West Thames College, System Training and Skills for Logistics. An alliance between employer & trainers to ready individuals for logistics jobs at Heathrow. Carl Lomas IOC has taken the role of chairman of the new GTA. Marjorie Semple boss of West Thames college has facilitated space and motivation and System training are the delivery agents. The first course was 11 candidates who began their career steps into logistics last week. Top brass from skills council S4L, the careers service, Connections and local job centre were on hand to celebrate the logistics partnership between private training provider and college. Carl Lomas comments,

It's an all win for the candidates who have job interviews before the course has even finished.

this is local jobs for local candidates in a sector that is strong and rich in jobs all around our area.

October 31st target for DHL Rico deal.

DHL Express UK to close a deal on its UK Same Day domestic courier business to Rico Logistics Ltd . In a statement, DHL said this agreement had been reached to facilitate DHL Express' continued focus on international express services, while providing UK Same Day domestic customers with continued best in class same day services from Rico. DHL Express will continue to offer its Same Day International services and its Time Definite Domestic and International, as well as Day Definite services are unaffected. Slough-based Rico Logistics was taken over by TVS Supply Chain Solutions in October 2012.  DHL said the aim was for a seamless transition of service to Rico and it was business as usual with all accounts, booking services, rates, contacts and products available. Same Day domestic customers will receive full details on any changes prior to the business handover date. Rico, which has a turnover of around £59m, has been trading for over 25 years, with 35 warehouses in the UK and operations across Europe. Same Day is a core service for Rico. DHL sold its UK domestic parcels business to HDNL in January 2010 as part of is move to focus on its international express operations. That operation today is Yodel.
