Courier Trailblazer Apprenticeship not yet through.

The phase three trailblazer for courier has come back for more work, BIS have asked for further detail on the length/stretch of the qualification and outline of the wider jobs around courier. Next submission date is Friday 5th June. There will be a sector workshop to focus on the detail at the IOC stand at Multi Modal show NEC. City & Guilds and Pearson remain solid as education partners to look at the new framework.

David Sampson, head of standards BIS/DfE  ‘ I am sorry to say that your standard wasn’t approved by the Minister for Skills on this occasion.
Whilst the Panel felt that the standard was well written, they had a fundamental concern, namely that, as the role is currently described in the draft standard, it doesn’t justify 12 months of sustained and substantial training when considering whether or not to recommend approval of a standard. On a point of detail, the Panel also thought the standard could be improved by explaining in the first section the wider variety of courier roles that are available. I know that this will be disappointing news for the employers involved, but hope that you will find this feedback helpful, next submission date is Friday June 5th.’

Latest updates on the courier trailblazer can be found on the dedicated web at www.couriertrailblazer.com

Motorcycle theft is reduced to zero in Westminster ‘hotspot’

MCIA reports Motorcycle thieves are now avoiding St James’s Square in London, thanks to a series of anti-theft initiatives. The Square was identified as one of four ‘hotspots’ for motorcycle theft by Westminster City Council, with around 52 motorcycles or scooters stolen each year from its parking bays -  around one a week. £1 million worth of motorcycles, scooters and mopeds have been stolen from the whole of the City of Westminster since April 2014 - a total of 191. Since September though, none have been taken from St James’s Square, as a result of a series of measures put in place by Westminster City Council through working in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and security marking specialists Datatag.  This could be rolled out to other ‘hotspots’.
