TfL LoCity, IoC chair Carl Lomas to head the Van sector group

Sarah Wixey, project manager freight & fleet programmes says congratulations to both Carl and Nigel. Carl Lomas from the Institute of Couriers has been selected as the Chair of the van working group and Nigel Base from SMMT will be the Vice-Chair – There will be a conference on May 25th in London and the first van group sector meeting needs to be in your diary for June 15th.

It has been twelve months in the making, safety, efficiency and environment. Plain English language to bring change. 9416 people died early last year in London because of air quality!’ This is a programme, not a project, a change programme in action. 3 work-streams. 1 is technical, whole life of vehicles, alternative fuels. 2 is research, infrastructure and supply chain. 3 is market research, fleet advice and communication.’

April Diary has a perfect clash on 28th of this month

A great double-diary clash to get two trade shows in one at the NEC at the end of the month April 27th/28th. A key date in London will be the LoCity conference by TfL on May 25th and IoC are setting up a heads of Industry (must not miss) event at Heathrow for June 14th. A little further ahead for your diary is Cartmarking at Guildhall on July 13th

Manchester focus for 610,000 sq ft ALDI site in Bolton – the supermarket retailer’s biggest UK distribution centre.

Logistics Manager reports. The £50 million purpose-built facility will be occupied by 550 relocated employees – the site will replace a smaller facility in Middleton, Greater Manchester.

Up to 100 new logistics roles will be available at the site over the next few months.

“To keep pace with consumer demand we plan to open more than 80 new stores this year,” said Jonathan Neale, Aldi’s joint managing director, buying. “This is the most stores we have ever opened in a single year and many will be in parts of the UK that currently don’t have an Aldi.
